Valentine "Tino" Freeman is a multidisciplinary creative director in advertising, music video, and film, and a writer. Her solo and collaborative projects have been awarded at Sundance Film Festival, Cannes Lions, and the Clio and ADC awards. Her writing has been published in The Believer, Weekday Journal, Corpus Collosum, and other journals, and her chapbook What’s Truly is Feral was selected by Marvin Bell for his New Poets Series with Lost Horse Press. Her micro-collection, Happy Ideas is forthcoming in 2025 from Ghost City Press.
Valentine was Costume Designer on
We The Animals, a Sundance Lab feature based on Justin Torres' New York Times best-selling novel of the same title. She has served on several juries and panels including Cannes Lions, ADC, Altitude Summit, CAA Global Fellows, Free the Bid, and The 3% Movement, and as a professional mentor to young women-identified, trans, non-binary, and queer creatives. Valentine's creative work has been supported by the Center for Cultural Innovation, Community of Writers, and other organizations.
Valentine has worked a housecleaner, academic archivist, pizza thrower, nanny, secretary, writing tutor, data entry clerk, organ player, and bartender at a Texas sushi train. She lives, laughs and loves on unceded Chumash land in California with her wife, puppy, and blind cat/diety
